I came across this story about the Oakland Chief of Police, Chief Batts (yes, that’s really his name), announcing to citizens that they need not call the police if they are experiencing certain crimes, including burglary and theft, sooo if someone is robbing your home, ya can’t call a cop? This is no joke, this is Oakland, California, returning to the wild west days of yore, what does this mean for the taxpaying citizens of Oakland, and of America? Is this a trend?
In all fairness, I suspect that burglary and theft, which appear on the list, imply after the fact, not during a breaking and entering, I hope so anyway! And hey, Chief Batts says one can report on the web, after all!
The police response (or lack of it) has to do with lay offs, essentially, it’s a partial strike staged by the remaining officers who didn’t get layed off, but who suffers? This places the people of Oakland in danger, it’s an outrageous method by which to make a point, and oh btw I didn’t notice traffic violations on the list, so it appears that Oakland’s finest will still be ticketing out there on the streets of Oakland, so if you get robbed, you may be out of luck, but have a headlight out?
Things aren’t looking too good for Oakland citizens, this looks like a job for…Batman? No, the Gaurdian Angels, remember them? Well, they’re still serving America’s neighborhoods and they are in Oakland! If you are too, or you know someone who is, please give the Angels a call, sounds like Oakland needs them!
