Are the democratic populace who consistently flew into righteous verbal outrages over the Bush administration’s trampling of our rights, of international laws, of treaties, conventions, of just about everything we hold sacred when we define the American experiment, are these same defenders of the Constitution going to once again look the other way while Americans are stripped of their Miranda rights and perhaps carted off to Guantanamo, as when so many democrats sighed ho-hum when the Obama administration legalized the assassination of American citizens? *1
Eric Holder, and therefore President Obama, wants to strip Americans, in custody for suspicion of a terrorist act, of their Miranda Rights. A terrorist suspect is just that; a terrorist suspect, to strip him of his rights is to say he is guilty before due process of law. Isn’t there a fundamental and inalienable Constitutional principle here?
Republicans claim a suspect should be interrogated as an enemy combatant. Have we completely lost our inner sense and desire for our Constitution? Have we lost our understanding of what it means to have due process of law and to preserve the right of every citizen to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law ?
Are we the citizens going to, yet again, offer up our rights like so many blackbirds baked in a pie?
Please, read Glen Greenwald’s article today, please stay informed and vocal, this is the America we are creating for our children and I for one would like them to have all of the rights our Forefathers secured for us, yet in order for that to happen we have to secure these rights for everyone, especially those suspected and accused, for this is a core foundation of our Constitution, it is fundamental. The rights of the accused, therefore, represents every man, woman, and child in the United States of America, these rights insure that every citizen is, therefore, considered innocent until proven guilty, should a citizen ever stand accused.
If we are willing to strip others of these fundamental rights we are, thus, stripping them from our Constitution, we are stripping them from ourselves. It’s time to wake up Americans, it’s of, by, and for the people, remember? It’s up to us!
